Vita / Lebenslauf:
My paintings primarily focus on the human experience in relation to public spaces. From 1960, when I moved to New York City, until about 1980, my concerns were of the anonymity of people passing each other and the political theater that was taking place on the streets during those years.
During the 1980s and '90s, I concentrated on a series of people in public and interior spaces, such as hotel lobbies, bars and cafes, expressing through light, space and color the interaction of people and their surroundings.
Most recently, since the turn of the century, I have taken on a more voyeuristic approach in my series "Outside Looking In." I mingle the interiors of the spaces and people with the reflections of the outside world, sometimes including the invisible world that is in our minds by way of the media and news.
My medium has been oil on board or canvas; most of my inspiration is from the streets and spaces inside New York City.
